On Nov. 5, 2024, Missouri voters approved Proposition A, providing changes to the state’s minimum wage and paid sick time benefits to employees.
Minimum Requirements:
- Employees of an employer with fifteen or more employees shall accrue a minimum of one hour of earned paid sick time for every thirty hours worked, but such employees shall not be entitled to use more than fifty-six hours of earned paid sick time per year, unless the employer selects a higher limit.
- Employees of an employer with fewer than fifteen employees shall accrue a minimum of one hour of earned paid sick time for every thirty hours worked, but such employees shall not be entitled to use more than forty hours of earned paid sick time per year, unless the employer selects a higher limit.
- For additional information from the State of Missouri, please see the following FAQ link – Paid Sick Time.
Accrual & Use:
Earned paid sick time shall begin to accrue at the commencement of employment or May 1, 2025, whichever is later. An employee shall be entitled to use earned paid sick time as it is accrued. An employer may provide all earned paid sick time that an employee is expected to accrue in a year at the beginning of the year.
- Carry Over – Up to 80 hours of earned paid sick time shall be carried over to the following year if the employee has any unused accrued earned paid sick time.
- Alternatively, in lieu of carryover of unused earned paid sick time from one year to the next, an employer may pay an employee for unused earned paid sick time at the end of a year which could be carried over. An employer can provide the employee with an amount of paid sick time that meets or exceeds the requirements of sections 290.600 through 290.642 that is available for the employee’s immediate use at the beginning of the subsequent year;
ACTION REQUIRED:
